West Indies Women seals a 3-1 series win over Pakistan Women to move up the rankings
West Indies Women completed a 3-1 series win over Pakistan Women and joined Australia Women at the top of the ICC Women's Championship points table after a comprehensive six-wicket victory in the final One-Day International on Saturday (October 24).
It was another strong performance with the bat from Stafanie Taylor that helped West Indies chase down a target of 183 with 46 balls to spare at Beausejour Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia. Taylor, who came on in the fourth over after Anam Amin struck early to get rid of Hayley Matthews, stuck around till the end for a 107-ball 87.

Taylor steadied the innings in a patient 54-run stand for the third wicket with Deandra Dottin (25), before Merissa Aguilleira (37) joined her to add a quick 94 runs for the fourth wicket.
That Pakistan got to 182 for 5 in its 50 overs was thanks to the efforts of Asmavia Iqbal (44 not out in 43 balls) and Sana Mir (24), who added 75 in an unbeaten sixth-wicket stand over 81 balls. Earlier, Anisa Mohammed (2 for 30) and Shamilia Connell (3 for 32) had run through the top order, ensuring Pakistan could only progress at a crawl till the pair came together. Bismah Maroof, the fifth woman out, did her bit to keep things steady, but her 41 took 88 balls.

The first game of the four-match series didn’t count in terms of Championship points, and Pakistan’s win in that game – by six wickets, on the back of Javeria Khan’s 90 – didn’t affect West Indies much.
Once the stakes got higher, West Indies put its best foot forward, winning the second ODI by three wickets. Pakistan, despite Nain Abidi’s 48, was kept to 149, and Taylor led the run chase with a 49 in 89 balls, Amin’s 4 for 27 only serving to slow down the victory march.
The third ODI was far more one-sided. First, Taylor hit 98 not out from 117 balls and Merissa Aguilleira scored 68 from 90 balls to take West Indies to 281 for 5. Pakistan’s reply never quite took off, and though Javeria, batting at No. 3, stayed till the end with an unbeaten 73, West Indies won by a big 109-run margin. Taylor, interestingly, led the bowling effort as well, returning 3 for 26.
West Indies is now tied with Australia at the top of the table with 16 points. Australia, however, has played nine games while West Indies has played 12. Pakistan stayed in fifth spot after four wins from 12 games.
West Indies and Pakistan will next play three Twenty20 Internationals in Grenada, on October 29, 31 and November 1.
